We are so proud that Land+Shelter was recently featured in PEAK magazine, with a project that is an identity touchstone for the team.

That got us thinking…

what exactly is our identity?

Land+Shelter loves projects of literally all shapes and sizes. From artistic right-sized cabins to large institutional projects. And we think it’s possible to be passionate about and successful on both. What connects us to our projects are the people and places.

The “Tower Cabin” in Marble, CO, is a perfect example. The home gets inspiration from our surrounding mountains. It was built to be site specific, and is modern, artsy, and features a number of handmade details. It’s also off-the-grid, sustainable, and right-sized for the homeowners, who added a number of DIY touches themselves while living on-site in an Airstream trailer during construction.

This was truly a team effort, involving the homeowners as well as a few key Land+Shelter staff members who have since moved on from our firm. Their impact on the identity of this beautiful property is still here, and their impact is still felt, as Land+Shelter looks to celebrate our 20th anniversary in 2025. We’re thrilled that everyone who worked on Tower Cabin remain friends, and colleagues.

This article in PEAK was a reminder to be true to who we are as a studio. Land+Shelter is committed to the artistry of architecture. From right-sized cabins in the deep wilderness to accessible public and community projects, as well as larger homes– these are and have always a part of the mix.

We’re successful when we infuse those projects with the personality and warmth of our DNA. We identify as makers of well-crafted, off-grid, mountain dreams.
